November 7, 2025

State Labor Leaders Elected to New Terms

Members of the West Virginia AFL-CIO Executive Board were officially sworn in for new terms during the 2025 WV AFL-CIO Convention, held in Charleston, West Virginia, on November 4–5.

The convention, held every four years, serves as the time when officers and executive board members are elected to new terms.

Leadership Re-Elected and Board Expanded

This year, AFL-CIO President Josh Sword and Secretary-Treasurer Andy Walters were both re-elected to four-year terms, continuing their leadership of the state’s largest labor federation.

In addition, members of the AFL-CIO Executive Board were elected, with two new positions added to the board through a bylaws change adopted earlier this year.

Resolutions and Building Trades Involvement

Several resolutions were passed during the 2025 Convention, including three offered by the West Virginia Building and Construction Trades Council. These resolutions reflect the shared commitment of organized labor across the state to strengthen workers’ rights, expand apprenticeship opportunities, and support fair labor practices.
